Designer Talk Despro 2022 with Anies Walsh

Anies Walsh shares his experience at Designer Talk

DESPRO NEWS (August 08, 2022) This afternoon the residents of the ISI Yogyakarta Product Design Study Program had a special guest. Among his busy schedule, Anies Walsh took the time to attend the Designer Talk event this morning until noon, Monday, August 08, 2022. He himself is a famous designer who has traveled the world of practitioners, academics (being a guest lecturer), and host of the show "The Project" on one of Indonesia's television stations. With a myriad of experiences he has, Anies shared and told stories in a casual talk to students and the Product Design Study Program community. Located in the Seminar Room of Product Design Study Program Lt. 2, as many as approximately 40 people filled the venue seats that have been provided.

Anies Walsh, who had a master's degree in the United States, enthusiastically shared his ups and downs during his career as a designer. Accompanied by the event moderator, Anugrah A. Pratama, S.Sn., M.A., the talk show was quite lively. Not only continuing to speak alone, but Anies actively responded to questions from the moderator and the audience. In order to break the atmosphere, Anies often threw jokes to students. Some students had the opportunity to be interviewed by Anies directly about design science while training their insight and mentality when they have to communicate in front of the public.

The sharing session lasted for approximately an hour and a half. During this compact time, the audience was able to take lessons from Anies Walsh. As for the things that can be learnedhighlights That is, a designer must have self-confidence, but still be able to control it so that it does not lead to a boastful attitude. Furthermore, when entering the career world, designers will meet many client characters so we are required to be able to position ourselves and be accepted by clients. In addition, designers must also be able to communicate with clients to create a friendly and comfortable atmosphere so as to gain the trust of clients. He added, to support the design process, a designer should be able to understand the detailed background of each part of the design he makes.

An hour and a half passed unnoticed. The sharing event was closed by handing over a certificate and plaque to Anies Walsh which was handed over by the Head of the Despro ISI Yogyakarta Study Program, Dr. Rahmawan D. Prasetya, S.Sn., M.Si. Through this event, it is hoped that students will get an overview of the professional world so that they are ready to enter the world of work. Not only armed with knowledge from campus, but knowledge from the field.
