The event which began at 10.00 am this morning began with the procession of the senate of Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, followed by the chanting of the Hymn and Mars of ISI Yogyakarta. As in previous years, Saraswati Dance performed by 7 students of the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta was presented in front of the invited guests.
Furthermore, the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. M. Agus Burhan, M.Hum, in his speech and report, said that of the 23 study programs at ISI Yogyakarta, 16 were of the academic type, and the remaining 4 were vocational study programs at the undergraduate and associate expert levels, as well as 2 master's study programs and 1 doctoral program at the postgraduate level. There are 6 study programs that have recently received A accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT), namely Pure Art Study Program, Interior Design, Visual Communication Design, Art Craft, Dance, and S-2 Study Program for Art Creation and Assessment. While the next 5 study programs, namely Photography Study Program, Television and Film Study Program, Puppetry Study Program, Batik and Fashion Study Program (D3) and Ethnomusicology Study Program received a B grade. To improve academic quality, ISI Yogyakarta makes various efforts. One of them is to collaborate with a number of educational institutions both at home and abroad. For foreign cooperation, ISI Yogyakarta has signed an MoU on cooperation programs with several countries, including higher education institutions in Hungary, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Germany, the United States, and others. The cooperation is realized in activities such as exhibitions, performances, and screenings of joint works, workshops, and seminars. Another program is the double degree which was held at the ISI Yogyakarta Postgraduate Master of Art Creation and Studies Program.
The next speech was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Masaru Tanaka from the Institute of Philosophy & Human Values, Kyoto University of Art and Design, Japan. His scientific speech entitled "The Role Played in Peace by Creative Arts - from Practical Examples at University Education" was delivered in Japanese and translated by his assistant into Indonesian. On the sidelines of his speech, Assoc. Prof. Masaru Tanaka played a short video to illustrate the importance of the role of art in handling conflicts for peace. As the son of an atomic bomb victim in Hiroshima, he believes that art can be used as a means to realize peace. He has proven this by doing an art collaboration with an American citizen who is the son of one of the bombers who dropped the bomb on his city, Hiroshima. The person who was supposed to be his sworn enemy for making him and his family suffer for so long became a collaborative partner to create art. Unfortunately, he did not describe the process of his art collaboration in detail, including how he managed his psychological state vis-à-vis his collaborator.
Nevertheless, until the end of the event, the invited guests who filled ISI Yogyakarta's Concert Hall did not move from their seats to listen to his speech. The thunderous applause from the invited guests after he finished his speech was enough to show the audience's appreciation for him.
