DESPRO NEWS (April 11, 2017) The existence of the Product Design Study Program (Despro) at Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, which is only 2 years old, requires socialization to the community so that it can be more widely known. For this reason, Despro ISI Yogyakarta feels the need to interact intensely with communities and people who are active and concerned in the field of industrial product design in Indonesia, especially in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
One figure who is quite progressive in working in the field of product design in Central Java is Singgih S. Kartono (Designer who is also a product designer). founder/owner Tool Works). After Having successfully created the innovative design of the wood-based magno radio, he has come up with another innovation by creating a bamboo bicycle design that he calls "Spedagi". In order to interact and establish communication with him, Despro ISI Yogyakarta organized an informal working visit to his workshop, Krajan 1 Hamlet, Kandangan Village, Temanggung-Central Java. Three lecturers of Despro ISI Yogyakarta, Rahmawan D. Prasetya, S.Sn., M.Si., Drs. Endro Trisusanto, M.Sn., and Nor Jayadi, S.Sn., M.A., on Monday, April 10, 2017 visited and talked with Singgih S. Kartono about many things related to the development of industrial product design in Indonesia in general and in Central Java/DIY in particular.
The conversation also led to the need for designers to be concerned about environmental sustainability. Products that are designed and created should still consider environmental aspects, from the materials used, the manufacturing process, to after the product is damaged and cannot be used anymore. All of them must pay attention to environmentally friendly factors.
